Defiance
By Tom Stanley

The walls nearly collapsed, with me inside.
Trapped, standing amongst cracked foundation,
I kneel in bitter respect to unknown force.
A force, pressing its venom on us,
Rotting and rotten in its core.
Standing in defiance, the banner still flies,
Heralding the coming of hope and life.
Yet worry still holds power,
And we struggle to hold back the venom.
So like a mighty sword, We will cleave the lies,
The venom from existence, From our very hearts.
And as the stone is carved, the inner beauty radiates,
From deep inside, illuminating our lives,
Bringing the truth to bear on our souls.
We will persevere,
We will survive.
