Evergrace is an Role Playing Game (or Roles in this instance) that doesn't live up to its potential. It kept catching my eye in the local video game rental store so one day I decided to hire it out. Bad choice, read on to find out why.

Graphics: 2/10
Absolute garbage. Glitchy, dodgy graphics possess the whole game, or as much as I saw of it. About all you can say is that if some more rendering or glossing had been done the environment and characters would have looked good, but unfortunately this seems to have slipped the designer's minds.

Sound: 4/10
Not as bad as the graphics, but a change every now and then would be nice. The voice overs are cheesy and the monster sounds are repetitive. Hack'n'slash noises are also kind of boring. Music is tolerable, when you are feeling light-hearted or when you first play the game. Later you are going to be muting the game and playing your stereo to get away from it.

Gameplay: 7/10
This is why it has so much potential and yet is marred by everything else. You are able to choose 2 characters to begin your adventure with and switch between them during the game. Their storylines interact with one another's, which you can see in the environs. For instance, when following Sharline's storyline you see how a pillar becomes toppled in Darius's story. Also, the shopping and upgrading in this game is brilliant. Complex and challenging to master this will provide some fun if nothing else. Weapon choices vary when fighting different monster's, there is no ultimate weapon (to my knowledge). The only downfall in this game is the repetitively in battles and some puzzles.

Controls: 3/10
Easy to master, difficult to control. I HATE these damnable games where your character can get stuck or fall off a ledge because of dodgy controls. Stamina plays a major part in this game, which is unfortunate because it is such a pain in the backside.

Replayability: 1/10
If you missed any extras you may want to play it again, although you would be commended on your patience to play this horrible game again. Plus no multiplayer.

Buy or Rent?
If you had not guessed by now, I would say neither, or at best RENT. Play it once, play it again if you feel you need to or are a completionist.

Overall: 4/10
What a waste of potential.
