I think I got STAT for a birthday one
year. Being wary of Star Trek games from previous encounters I left it
sit for a while, but eventually boredom broke through. I didn't mind
that too much either
Graphics: 7/10
Eh, nothing to write home about. The view is a top down, almost
isometric view. You have your portraits along the left hand side and
your item menu below. Both look pretty flashy, as do the briefing
scenes. The game screen though is kind of messy. You can see where to go
but some things that you need to interact with blend in to the other
scenery so well you cannot see them. Frustrating isn't it?
Sound: 8/10
Pretty good, again nothing to write home about. The big thing in this
game is the voice acting. Very cool, even if they don't lip sync the
portraits or anything. Other than that you have your standard laser beam
sound and whatnot. Your average fare.
Gameplay: 8/10
I'm in a split mind about this. The game is very fun and the story is
pretty awesome, obviously using all the elements of the Star Trek
movies. You have your Klingons, Romulans, Borg, Vulcans and so on.
Basically, the game is very tactical. You pick your team before a
mission, taking the ones you need plus support. Some crew members have
tools or skills you need for the mission like a hacking chip or a sniper
rifle or something. Then when the team has been beamed down you take
them through the level and achieve each objective that has been set.
Sound simple? Not nearly. The game is VERY HARD! Almost like commando's.
You can click an option to see one enemy's cone of view and see the
sound waves your unit makes. ONE enemy. Which means that you have to
watch for several minutes to see the routine movements of everyone on
the map. If you are seen generally they will raise an alarm and you'll
be screwed. Especially in missions where you aren't allowed to kill
anyone.
Re-playability: 5/10
Besides loading and reloading the missions when you fail them (and you
will) there isn't much to do except go back and try different
combinations or get all the secondary objectives you may have missed
Overall: 7/10 Advised only for serious gamers and Trekkies |
