Dual Orb 2 is a rare RPG I had not heard of prior to playing it. I was browsing through the Game FAQ's SNES RPG games looking for a new one and found a good review for it, and a few medium ones. I'll make my own now of the latter.

Graphics: 6/10
Not the best in the business. The battle animations are extremely good, as good as Bahamut Lagoon battle animations. But the rest of the game is lacking. The menu is standard, the world map is atrocious and very small for a RPG and the rest is just above average. About Breath of Fire one level for a comparison besides the tiny map.

Sound: 6/10
The music for this game was so-so. It wasn't exceptionally grand like in a Final Fantasy game but it certainly wasn't pathetic like most NES music either. I definitely would not listen to it all day however. Sound effects were not memorable at all. Did it actually have any? I can't remember.

Gameplay: 7/10
Dual Orb 2 lacks the usual side quests other RPG's offer. Gameplay is very linear until near the end. The only innovation it offers is the ability to upgrade your weapons. various sorts of swords, bows, sabers and... flutes (yes that's right a flute) can be upgraded 20 levels to become a new weapon with a limit break style attack. Unfortunately this is extremely costly and you won't be using any until near the end when this game's straight forward, no wandering nonsense attitude ends and you can roam around the world a bit, though for what purpose besides levelling up your weapons and plot progression I would see no point at all. The storyline is excellent however. Plenty of character depth and some twists make this a decent game to remember. The game also features an amazing array of spells to cast with different affects. Although most status effect spells hardly seem to make any difference at all unless you cast them repeatedly and then some.

Re-playability: 2/10
I only played this once, but I guess if you wanted to you could go through it again to fix those weapons up (if you can stand trying to earn all that money)

Overall: 6/10 I'm assuming the music was good if not memorable and the story is great but kind of a letdown in other places... still play it its not too bad in-between Final Fantasy games.
