Ok, so I'm not usually a player of FPS'ers since they started bringing out rainbox 6 and ghost recon games. But
I was resigned to getting this game after finding no other possible co-op games to play with my mates. I found out that this
didn't have co-op either but we played it anyways and the result was...
Graphics: 7/10
You know what they can do with graphics on the Sony now? They can make long grass look REAL! Actually
that's just the first of a few gripes I have with the graphics. One of the opening scenes is very cool and even scary. The various places are designed well and blood and dirt splatters the screen when the circumstances are right. However, character designs (especially the enemy) don't have much variety in them. Close up of walls or the ground or whatever looks kinda choppy (like medal of honour 1) .
Sound: 9/10
This game relies a lot on the voice acting to get the story interesting. The soldiers actually sound afraid or angry or insane. Bullets whizzing by, planes overhead. The sound effects department got it right this time. Music isn't anything to write home about but it
wasn't unbearable either.
Gameplay: 6/10
Can everyone say "Call of Duty"? alright it isn't nearly as impossible as that monstrosity but it does take a lot from that game. First of all the aiming is pretty identical, I think the main difference being that you sway in this if you're standing up. you need to steady yourself by crouching. Secondly you can die very easily if you rush. Of course sometimes if you're good at rushing you might get lucky and bet down the bad guys before they can blink, but don't count on it. This game has a very interesting strategy side to it. When you push select it shows a birds eye view of the area and lets you plan on where you are going to move or order your squad to move. Another thing squad control is very simple.
Suppress, rush or just move is all controlled with L1 and X. But you should do most of the work yourself. Finally this game is difficult. Especially when its you versus tanks even with a panzerfaust (rocket launcher) they take a beating and beat you as well.
Replayability: Offline: 5/10 Online: 9/10
No I don't have net play on my PS2 but I'd imagine all the CoD nuts would be playing this and getting firing sniper rifles down to an art (weirdo's). The multiplayer offline
I mentioned at the beginning is just a simple squad vs. squad match. Not many options other than where to play it.
Overall: 7/10 A decent war game but too much like Call of Duty for my liking |
