Breath of Fire 2 is the second installment in the Breath of Fire Series. This was my introduction to RPG's and man what an intro!
Graphics: 9/10
A huge deal better than BoF 1. Everything looks smoother, nicer and grander. Sprites are much better animated and cities/dungeons look superb. They're still swapping palette colours on sprites and giving them new names but less frequently than in the first. No complaints here
Sound: 9/10
A bit more variety than the first, but then again this has more in it for new sounds. A couple extra songs, not much else to say here.
Gameplay: 10/10
Breath of Fire 2 has held and improved the standard upon which it began. For starters it has improved on its fishing and hunting games by making these into a new screen. in hunting you
don't wander on the world map chasing your prey in chance of a random battle, but instead enter a hunting field where you can use 1 of 3 characters to hunt in different ways. Fishing relies more on skill than on what bait you use now.
Same RPG elements as the first and similar storyline. However BoF2 includes a new system called 'bonding' where you can bond you characters to various elemental shamans for an increased effect and even a new form!
Traveling the world map has also become easier. Certain characters can utilize
skills to move faster or overcome obstacles in your path. Also you become the founder of a town during the game and can choose residents, building types and much more!
I'll warn you now though.. it's a fairly long game and in some parts difficult.
Replayability: 7/10
Same as before you will want to replay it to find out all the little secrets in the game (and some
Easter Eggs!). And as above find out all the little quirks your town has to offer.
Overall 9/10: An RPG you can't miss out on for anything |
