Review
Graphics
Throughout Final Fantasy V, you will see all sorts of different
backgrounds, locations, enemies, etc which all look beautiful to view.
Compared to some SNES games, FFV has a really great graphics engine, the
best thing is the amount of detail put in to them, for example a town is
full of bright colourful trees, houses, shops, NPCs etc which make the
FFV experience a joy to play.
Sounds
Not the best sounds but c'mon, it was the retro era of gaming, sounds on
games then weren't generally great. Although the battle song that plays
as you battle enemies is great, it really does set the mood. The sound
of you slashing an enemy down with your sword is satisfying, overall the
sounds aren't great but there not rubbish.
Gameplay
Obviously the best part to Final Fantasy V, FFV features something
called "jobs", a new feature that has never been used in any
other previous FF's, basically every so often in the game you will come
across certain crystal shards usually shattered from a big crystal, they
contain different jobs such as Knight, Thief, Black Mage, Beserker, Time
Mage(you may recognize some from FFX2). Each job has a different skill
to them for example the Black Mage will use dark spells to kill of
enemies, the Monk will use his/her fists to beat your enemies down, the
white mage will help you by Curing your party, you get the idea. FFV
uses the ATB system in which you wait for your bar to fill up and decide
what to do next in the battle, whilst you are deciding, enemies can
possibly attack you so you do need to decide quite fast. Once you've
finished FFV, you'll probably think you've conquered it, no, FFV packs
in loads of secrets and sidequests and other collectibles, the Blue Mage
has a skill in which you learns the skills from enemies, this can be an
extra thing to do alongside other tasks. As for the transportation, well
there's a variety of transport from a Ship to a Black Chocobo, apart
from moving around on these, you can also walk, which takes a little
longer and increases the chance of battles. You play through the game
with Butz, the main character, on your journey you will meet new party
members, mainly being Galuf, Faris and Leena. Each have there own story,
I wont go too much into it as it may spoil it, but the main plot is
about the crystals and how if they all get destroyed, well let's just
say something very bad will happen, it's your job(as in any FF) to save
the world, throughout you will encounter many things from boss battles,
random encounters, different locations, various characters, treasure
chests etc giving it the typical great Final Fantasy RPG feeling.
To Sum Things Up
Overall FFV is maybe the best RPG for the SNES. It is really worth
playing. 90% out of 100% |
