The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
System: Nintendo Wii
Genre: Action
Difficulty: Medium to Hard
Score: 9/10
Definitely one of the best Zelda games ever made. This game combines
almost everything that was good in the previous Zelda games, adds many new
items and abilities and introduces some of the best NPCs in the series
yet.
Graphics (9/10)
The graphics are an incredible improvement compared to the previous Zelda
games, but due to the fact that the game was previously made for the Game
Cube, they do seem to be a bit outdated. They are far from terrible, but
still a bit rough around the edges at times.
Sounds (10/10)
The music and sounds fit the game perfectly. The music matches the mood of
the game perfectly and since all bosses have their own music, it adds more
originality to each major battle in the game. Many of the sound effects
still come from your TV, but your weapon and cursor sounds all come from
the controller, which adds more depth to the experience. My only issue is
that there is still no verbal speech in the game, other than Midna’s
gibberish and the odd “hey”.
Storyline (9.5/10)
The storyline was very well done, but it still felt unfinished at certain
points, including the ending. Almost every character in the game had some
type of background story behind them, which allows for a much more natural
feel than some of the previous games.
Gameplay (9.5/10)
The controls of this game are great, but not perfect. There are several
different moves that you have depending on how you move either part of the
controller, as well as the pointer allows to make those ranged weapons
have a whole new feel to them. The only issues I have with the entire
control interface is that sometimes it is too sensitive, and others not
sensitive enough. I lost count of how many times I swing by mistake just
by moving around a bit, but also how many times I try to do moves like
spin or strike with my shield and it doesn’t register at all.
Replayability (6/10)
As with most games of this type, there isn’t much to drive you to play it
again once you beat it. There are lots of hidden secrets and items to
collect that you will likely miss the first time through, but other than
striving for that 100% completion, there isn’t much left.
Overall (9/10)
Twilight Princess was definitely one of my favorite games of the series
and belongs right up there with Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past. I
highly recommend anyone who has a Wii to get the game.
