Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Game Boy Advance
Console RPG
Difficulty: 8/10
Score: 8/10
Square released Kingdom hearts, and the world was pleased with it. Now,
they place this Semi-sequel on the GBA, so how does it hold up?
Graphics (8/10)
The graphics of the game are very good to say the least for a GBA, and the
animated sequences look like they would have been taken from the original
PS2 version.
Sounds (9/10)
A lot of the songs from the original KH are here, plus a few new ones,
Which when on a GBA, are very good indeed. The various characters have
voices (Battle noises but still XD )that can be heard clear, cept for
Donald, but thats his normal....
Storyline (9/10)
The game starts with Sora, Goofy, Donald, chasing pluto down the road from
the previous game. As night comes and they rest, Sora goes out and
discovers a man in a Black hood After speaking to Sora, he leads him to
the Castle where the game begins...
After this, the story unfolds into a mystery that keeps you guessing on
the plans of the Hooded group. Personally, this can one of two ways from
here. You can either like the story because it brings somthing fresh to
the series, or you can hate how it literally has almost nothing to do with
the original.
Gameplay (9/10)
The original gameplay from KH was completely overhauled, except for how
the attacks worked. Instead of this being a regular RPG as in KH, this
game makes it into a strategy RPG, Much like, in my opinion, Magic.
You start by using cards you collect through the game. There are 3 types
of cards, Attack (Keyblades) Magic( Blizzard, Fire, etc) and Item(Potion,
ether)
First of all, all cards are marked with a number, 0-9, when a low level
card is played (2) The other may "Break" The card, nullifing its ability
with a higher card (7). this applies to all cards except the (0) card.
This card breaks all others, regardless of number or combination
number(See below)
, but can also in turn be broken by any number.
Each attack card has certain strengths and weaknesses. While one card may
have a fast attack, it also might not much damage. But as the game goes
on, you learn different Card combos, which are speacial attacks, such as
the keyblade throw, which can only be used by combining 3 cards with
numbers adding to a certain number.
Magic cards vary in effects and ranges. The idea is the same in attack
cards. The only way, however, to get high level spells (The -aga spells)
Is to combine 2 or more of 1 type of card. I really cant explain much more
on this, being as I rarely used magic.
Item cards mainly have two tasks, to either heal you, or reload(see below)
your cards instantly. That is all, but if I left out somthing, PM me and I
will correct this area.
As you use your cards, your "Card Pool" will run dry. When that happens,
you have one of two options. You can use an item card that specifically
reloads your cards, such as elixer, or you can manually reload. This takes
time, however and also takes more time the more times you reload. While
reloading your vulnerable, so be careful...
Replayability (7/10)
After you complete the game, there is an additional story line to follow.
I wont say any more on this so I wont ruin secrets. After that, there isnt
really much of a replay to it sadly to say.
Rent or Buy : I would highly suggest renting it, to see if you get into
the gameplay, then if you do, buy it.
Overall (8/10)
With a tie up to the events between KH and KH2, and a pretty fun new
battle system, this game will remain as one of the best in my opinion.
I know I left out a few details, please PM me on the forum on things and I
will correct them. DocterNameless |
