Chapter 3
A giant orange mushroom was
staring back at Schimmel. It looked down on him with frightening eyes that
glowed for a second before it jumped in the air and landed again. The sheer
weight of it caused a shockwave and blew Schimmel back to the ground a few feet
away.
He got up and felt a throbbing pain all over him now. He
looked back at the massive creature and didn't even want to try to fight it. He
turned to his left to see that the orange blur of mushrooms there wasn't
decreasing anymore. He figured it wouldn't help much if he brought another one
over, especially since this one seemed to be twice the size of all the others.
It was getting ready to jump at Schimmel again. This time, not
into the air, but straight at him. It's eyes shone again for a moment and leaped
at him as he dived out of the way while unsheathing his sword at the same time.
"I'm getting a bit better at this," he thought. He ran at the mushroom
that was now looking for where Schimmel had went. He came up behind it and swung
his sword as hard as he could down at it's back.
The female mage that J Man was fighting alongside was
amazingly powerful. She was defeating wave after wave of the mushrooms by
herself with the Thunder Bolt and Cold Beam spells. Thunder Bolt would rain
waves of lightning down on hordes of mushrooms, while Cold Beam would shoot a
wave of ice at a few of them causing them to be frozen immediately. J Man
watched for a minute as she cast her spells continuously, he wondered how she
could cast them so fast and without even getting tired.
"Hey," she called to J Man while she was fighting,
"Stop gaping at my chest and fight, you dimwit!" she said, which made
J Man realize the mushrooms were still coming. He backed off a little from where
she was fighting so she wouldn't have to be careful where she was aiming with
those spells. They could probably knock him out without any effort.
Astreryl and Raquen were holding their own against a crowd of
the mushrooms. Astreryl was quickly wearing down though. She wasn't a fighter,
she needed spells to attack more effectively. Raquen was doing most of the
fighting for both of them, but even he had his limits in hand-to-hand combat.
They wouldn't last much longer at this rate.
They made their way over to the port in the town by running
past all the orange mushrooms. As they went against the direction the mushrooms
were heading, they noticed none would attack them. As they reached the spot in
the port where the boat comes from Victoria, they could see the boat closing in
on Maple Island.
Astreryl tugged on Raquen's shirt, "Hey, there's someone
over there!" she pointed in the direction where she saw a young man in
basic leather armor with a wooden sword facing off against an orange mushroom.
One that looked twice the size of the rest.
Raquen saw him too. Except when he turned around to see, he
saw the orange mushroom turn around and hit the man, who fell on the ground and
didn't get up, "Woah, we better go help him. Come on!" Raquen said as
he waved a hand and ran to the beach where the fight was at, followed shortly
after by Astreryl.
Schimmel brought his sword down on the giant orange mushroom,
but it simply spun around and lunged at him without much effort and it knocked
him down to the ground with a heavy thud. He was badly injured now, he had cuts
all over his face which bled slightly and felt like he had broken one of his
legs. He rolled over and sat up, trying to push himself away across the sand
with his uninjured leg while he held his wooden sword with both hands ready to
block it's attack.
It's eyes shone again, and jumped in the air again. It seemed
to follow a simple pattern, but it was so strong that it was hard to do anything
against it. He kept backing up with his sword held tight, but it was no use as
the mushroom came down near him and caused another shockwave. This time he was
already on the ground. Instead of being knocked to the ground, he slid across
the sand, causing more cuts. He had been pushed by the shockwave so hard that
there was a mound of sand in front of where he slid.
He could hardly look up anymore, but he tried to look up to
see who it was when he heard voices, "Oh no! Raquen-kun, do something! He's
hurt!"
It was a female's voice. Though he couldn't see who it was,
her voice was sweet, not the voice of someone who fights as a Hunter for a
living. It was the last voice he heard before he blacked out entirely.
J Man was still back at SouthPerry fending off the regular
orange mushrooms who were now halved in size. The reinforcements from Victoria
had arrived on the boat and had immediately begun destroying the mushrooms
extremely quick. They seemed to vary in Hunter Class. A few of each class:
warriors, rogues, mages and bowmen. The warriors were quickly cutting through
masses of them with small waves of energy. The rogues were fighting with either
fast, close range weapons or shurikens that they threw. The mages were waving
their wands causing slashes on the mushrooms. Finally, the few bowmen had jumped
above ground on boxes or all the way up to rooftops in order to snipe the
mushrooms from a distance.
J Man decided to go find Schimmel now that the advanced
Hunters had arrived and were quickly taking care of the mess of mushrooms
without his help. He headed toward the woods where he had come through to
SouthPerry and couldn't find Schimmel anywhere. He headed for the other
SouthPerry entrance at the beach. He looked out and saw Schimmel unconcious on
the ground, a man with short blonde hair in beginner warrior's leather armor,
except with a small sword and shield who was holding off a giant mushroom. He
saw a girl with long, straight brown hair in a pink t-shirt and red skirt
running back toward SouthPerry.
Raquen jumped in front of the giant mushroom as it was about
to attack and held it off with the flat of his blade held up against it with his
two hands. It took all his strength to hold it off.
"Astreryl, head back to SouthPerry for help here!
Now!" Raquen yelled under the stress of holding the giant mushroom back. It
was stronger than he had thought.
"But... you can't hold it off for that long!"
Astreryl pleaded.
"What, you'd rather us both run back and leave this guy
to die? I can hold it off long enough. Look, the boat is at SouthPerry now, go
see if there are people who can help us here!" he pleaded to Astreryl as
she nodded silently and ran to the boat. She ran as fast as she could, worried
Raquen might not be able to hold it off.
