Chapter 6: Unexpected Reunion
Calmar and Clint
arrived at the fortieth floor, wondering who was next on the list of people
Thomas had brought with him.. They opened the door slowly, a tall person in full
blue body armor was waiting for them, holding a large rifle. A bright orange
face shield kept them from seeing who it was, but Clint seemed to know
instantly.
"Well, I never expected to see you here." Clint
said, walking into the room without giving it another thought. "How long
has it been?"
"A long time. I didn't know you were going to be one of
the people I had to kill." The armored man said casually.
"Does this mean we don't have to fight?"
"Sorry, friend, I have my orders."
"Friend? What's going on here?" Calmar asked,
confused.
"This is Ozmond Carlyle, or Ozzie, as he prefers to be
called. We used to know each other, met up a lot during missions. I suppose you
could call us rivals in some sense." Clint said, looking back at Calmar
"You go on ahead, I think it will be fun to have another match with him,
what do you think Ozzie?"
Ozzie laughed "Of course, I always wondered what happened
to you. A rematch would be fun, what was the last score?"
"12 to 15, in your favor. I've gotten a lot better since
then though. Better watch yourself." Clint said, taking two pistols from
his coat. "See you later Calmar."
Calmar shook his head silently, and walked to the other
staircase. "What's wrong with these people?" he mumbled as he walked
through the door and started up the stairs.
"Shall we?" Clint said, smiling.
"Ready when you are."
"One moment." Clint walked over to a desk and slid
it in front of the door leading downstairs, "There, now we can't be
bothered."
Clint dashed to the side, firing at Ozzie. His bullets didn't
even dent the armor. Ozzie returned fire, missing every shot as Clint shouted
"You still rely too much on defense I see."
"And you're still lacking stopping power with those puny
things!" Ozzie shouted back over the gunfire.
The battle stretched on, neither one doing any damage to the
other. Clint kept swirving in and out of cover, while Ozzie stayed planted on
one spot. Through the noise, Clint heard a faint pounding. "Wait a
moment!" he said to Ozzie, who lowered his rifle.
The sound became clear, someone was hitting the door.
"Hold on a few minutes, we're in the middle of something!" Clint
yelled, but Ozzie had taken aim at the door. "Ozzie no!" Clint yelled
as he fired, a scream came from behind the door. "Idiot!" Clint dashed
up to Ozzie, who had put two more bullets in the door. Clint emptied both
pistols into Ozzie's face shield, leaving cracks in it.
Clint reloaded, took a couple steps back and fired at the side
of Ozzie's helmet. The mask shattered and Ozzie dropped his rifle.
"Damn." he said, holding up his hands. "Ok, ok , you won.
Calm down."
"13 to 15 now." Clint said, walking over to the
door. They heard a crash, and the door downstairs fell backwards. Alan stood in
the doorway. "You all right Ozzie?" he asked, kicking the desk out of
the way.
Maria and Amy ran in, "Clint, you ok?!" Maria said
in a panic.
He just laughed, "I'm fine, and you two?"
"We're all right, but what about Calmar?" Amy asked,
looking around the room.
"He went on ahead... so we could have a bit of fun."
Ozzie said, shouldering his rifle.
"You call this fun?" Amy pointed to the countless
number of bullet holes in the walls and furniture.
"What're you so angry for? It's not like you live here,
or have to clean the place. What happened to you anyway Alan? The noisy pink one
beat you?"
"Noisy pink one?!" Amy shouted.
"Nah, she did." Alan said, gesturing toward Maria.
"We should talk later though. Thomas needs to know something
important."
"Important? Like what?" Ozzie asked
"There's no time for this!" Amy interrupted
"Hurry up and get moving!" she said, running up the stairs.
"Always so full of energy isn't she?" Clint laughed.
"Off we go."
All five of them climbed the staircase, Amy almost a floor
ahead of the rest. Maria and Alan explained what had happened seven years ago,
and they all agreed that the fight between Thomas and Calmar should be stopped.
When Amy arrived on the roof, Calmar and Thomas were in the heat of battle.
Thomas was firing wildly and Calmar was either narrowly avoiding the bullets or
somehow deflecting the with his katana. Amy stood watching them, trying to
figure out how she could stop them before someone ended up dead.
